FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How long does the property
evaluation take?
That depends on the type of
service requested, total number of acres, terrain and habitat type.
However, for an acre by acre "on foot" evaluation I typically cover between
100 to 200 acres per day. Other services involving "spot & check"
evaluations create shorter timelines.
Also, because my fee is fixed per
acre and not based on a preset daily rate, you do not have to worry about
paying for down time because of weather delays, etc.
Q: Do you charge for the acreage
that is farmed?
(i.e. - grass pastures, planted or plowed fields)
No, not unless you request I scout
those fields. I do scout field perimeters however.
Q: I am one of several bowhunters
on a deer lease, how would you do business with us?
The easiest method is for lease
members to pool their resources and designate a point man to work with
me. He would be the person with whom I review my findings,
give the notes and map to, and point out selected sites. I can also
work with individual lease members interested in understanding how to set
up and hunt their lease better, in which case my findings remain
confidential with the participating member(s) only.
Q: How do you verify the acreage
for each property evaluation.
I use online tools to validate property
acreage. Any differences are discussed and agreed upon prior to service.
Q: Is your fee negotiable?
Yes. Evaluations on properties
larger than 320 acres are eligible for reduced rates. Please call
for details.
Q: Where I hunt it is illegal
(or not allowed) to use feeders during hunting season. Can you still
help me?
Yes, in at least two ways.
1. I can point out ideal
locations for strategically placed mini food plots, which are an effective
option for creating predictable movement between deer use areas throughout
your hunting area. Marked off key stand site locations would then
take advantage of this movement.
2. Whether or not you use
feeders, an evaluation will provide you with a comprehensive understanding
of how the deer utilize your hunt area, and the program's marked stand
sites allow you to take advantage of their movement patterns during each
of the four behavior phases of the hunting season.
Q: Can I learn on my own
where to strategically set feeders, mini food plots, and stand sites to
increase shot opportunities on mature bucks?
Yes, of course. However, you
will find little if any information on this subject in magazines, books,
or on the internet. And, if you do not mind learning from experience
through trial and error of applied strategies based upon years of observation
and record keeping, then doing it yourself is an option. However,
by engaging others with greater experience and knowledge, they can teach
us important techniques and strategies that we would not know to consider.
Example
- it is common practice for bass fishermen to hire and fish with professional
guides so they can learn a particular lake, or how to interpret structure,
and why, where and when trophy bass hang out during the different seasons
and under varied conditions. Same concept.
Q: Do you guarantee that I
will have opportunities to bag large, mature trophies each season?
Unfortunately
no, for two reasons.
First, there has to be a viable
deer herd to hunt. If there is not, then you will need to adjust
your killvest numbers for a few seasons to manage for sex ratios and age
class. However, the information you gain from a Property Evaluation
can help you develop an effective and dynamic management program, and;
the resulting strategies for feeder station locations and stand sites will
apply both now and in the future as your program progresses.
Secondly, what we do with the knowledge
we gain is more important than having just the knowledge itself.
How someone applies the discoveries, knowledge and strategies I share with
them is beyond my control.
However, you will receieve valuable
information about the land you hunt, how the deer utilize it, and be presented
with comprehensive hunt strategies proven to create new and exciting encounters.
